Summary of Admin Activities From August 2021-October 2023
Overview
Over the past year and a half, we have been in contact with various administrators within UTD. This document aims to consolidate and summarize all our of interactions to aid future leadership when formulating their objectives and strategy when it comes to working with the university.
Objectives
We had two primary objectives when we worked with administration:
Obtain university data in a machine-readable format.
We currently scrape and/or FOIA request data from the university, which we use to power our products. However, scrapers are brittle and FOIA requests cost money. Thus, were hoping to find more sustainable methods to obtain university data.
Get university adoption for our products.
As officers in the organization, our hope is for the products that we build at Nebula Labs will one day see wide adoption among UTD students. One avenue to accomplish this is by getting university support and hopefully endorsement as an official tool.
Past Conversations
Here’s a rough list of all the conversations and contacts we have had with administrators at UTD.
Dr. Newman
Dr. Newman is advocating for an official UT Dallas API due to difficulties in accessing university data. He views collaborations with Nebula Labs an opportunity to save time and money for the university by using our tools. He suggests demonstrating the value of our projects to gain support from higher authorities.
